Visitors!

Brian, Lorie, Lauren and Emily arrived on Saturday afternoon. It was the first time Lauren and Emily had been on a plane and they did great. Lauren actually "loved it!" We met them at Penn Station and came back to Roosevelt Island to get them settled in to their place for the week. We had a bite for lunch and then took the train into the city. We went to Central Park, FAO Schwartz and Dylan's Candy Bar. We had some leftover pizza for dinner and then to bed. Sunday we spent most of the day in the city, went to brunch, then a little adventure on the train. Lauren and I made it on, but the doors closed behind us and everyone else was still standing on the platform. Once we got on, I realized we were on the wrong train! So, we rode one stop, got off, realized that the wrong train we'd been on had actually replaced the train we were supposed to have gotten on, so we WERE on the correct train after all! So, when the next one came, we got on it and there was everyone else! Reunited! We took that train to the American Museum of Natural History and spent a few hours there. Then, off to find some ice cream for the girls and coffee for the grown ups and then back home. We played a marathon game of Apples to Apples and then it was time for bed. Speaking of marathons, in class today we continued on making tarts. My partner, Colleen, and I made 2 large savory tarts - called Pizza Rustica - a 12X18 apple walnut tart, a batch of individual chocolate hazelnut tarts and I made a raspberry frangipane tart. It was truly a day's work!
